Remove Flywheel Housing
start by:a) remove flywheelb) remove oil pan basec) remove starting motor(s)d) remove sea water pump (marine engine only) 1. On an industrial engine remove bolts (1) that hold the oil return line for the left turbocharger to the flywheel housing. On a marine engine remove the oil return line for the left turbocharger. 2. On a marine engine only remove bolt and washer (2) and remove elbow (3) on the right side of the flywheel housing. 3. Remove oil return line (4) for the right turbocharger. 4. Remove oil line (5).5. On marine engines remove water line (7).6. Remove oil line (6).7. Bend the locks away from bolts (8) and remove the bolts and locks. Use 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws to remove baffle (9) from the flywheel housing. Remove the seal from baffle (9). Always install a new crankshaft rear seal and wear sleeve any time baffle (9) is removed from the crankshaft gear. See CRANKSHAFT REAR SEAL AND WEAR SLEEVE REMOVAL for the procedure to remove the wear sleeve from the crankshaft gear. 8. Remove bolts (10) and (11) that hold the flywheel housing to the timing gear plate. 9. Remove bolts (12) and nuts (13) from the flywheel housing. 10. Fasten tooling (A) and a hoist to flywheel housing (16). Remove two bolts and install two 1/2"- 13 NC guide bolts (15). Remove bolts (14) and remove the flywheel housing. Weight is approximately 275 lb. (124 kg).Install Flywheel Housing
1. Install a new gasket (1) for the flywheel housing. Cut the bottom of the gasket even with the bottom of the timing gear plate. Install two 1/2"- 13 NC guide bolts (2) in the back of the cylinder block.2. Fasten tooling (A) and a hoist to the flywheel housing. Put the flywheel housing in position on the engine. Be sure the gear on the back of the flywheel housing is engaged with the oil pump idler gear and crankshaft gear. Install the bolts that hold the flywheel housing to the engine. 3. Install bolts (3) and nuts (4). 4. Install bolts (5) and the bolts and spacers that hold clamps (6) on the back of the timing gear plate.5. Install a new crankshaft rear seal and wear sleeve. See CRANKSHAFT REAR SEAL AND WEAR SLEEVE INSTALLATION. 6. Install oil line (7) and the clip that holds the oil line to the flywheel housing.7. On marine engines install water line (8). 8. On marine engines put oil on the O-ring seal for water elbow (10) and install the elbow on the tube. Install bolt (9) and the washer that holds the elbow in place.9. Install oil return line (11) for the right turbocharger. 10. Install oil line (12).11. On marine engines install oil return line (13) for the left turbocharger.
