Information:

2. Engine Retarder Minimum Vehicle Speed Limit Type
The programmable Engine Retarder Minimum Vehicle Speed feature will be expanded with the addition of a new parameter to add a "soft limit" option, as opposed to the previous "hard limit". The "soft limit" option allows the engine retarder to operate above the programmed Engine Retarder Minimum Vehicle Speed Limit (just like "hard limit"), but allows retarder operation to continue below the programmed Engine Retarder Minimum Vehicle Speed Limit. The "soft limit" will not allow the engine retarder to turn on below the Engine Retarder Minimum Vehicle Speed Limit. If the Engine Retarder Minimum Vehicle Speed Limit is programmed to 0 mph, there will be no effect on engine retarder operation.
3. Adjust Air Conditioner (A/C) Pressure Switch Fan-On Time
For OEMs that use the Caterpillar ECM to monitor the status of the A/C pressure switch, the A/C Pressure Switch Fan-On Time has been expanded to 1-600 seconds. The previous range was 30-600 seconds. The A/C Pressure Switch Fan-On Time should continue to be programmed to 0 seconds if the OEM does NOT use the Caterpillar ECM to monitor the status of the A/C pressure switch.
The range of the A/C Pressure Switch Fan-On Time was expanded to accommodate OEMs using A/C system controls to operate the A/C compressor. These controls may already provide a delay for response to the A/C pressure switch. This delay, in combination with the Caterpillar 30 second minimum delay, was leaving the cooling fan ON for too long of a period. This parameter change affects the ECM Multi-Function Output #4 (pin 28), which was formerly the Cooling Fan Driver.
4. Vehicle Speed Tampering
The existing vehicle speed tampering strategy has been improved. If certain conditions are met, an 84-02 Invalid Speed Signal (36) is logged and engine speed is limited by the Vehicle Speed Limit (VSL) Protection parameter. The engine remains limited by VSL Protection for one hour after the code becomes inactive.
5. Ambient Air Temperature Over American Trucking Association (ATA) Data Link
This feature provides the ability to receive the ambient air temperature over the ATA (J1587) data link using an OEM installed sensor, if available, in place of a Cat sensor.
6. Engine Retarder Delay Parameter
A new parameter for engine retarder and auxiliary brake operation provides a programmable delay after basic conditions to turn the retarder ON are met. The customer parameter default is 0 seconds. This parameter has been added to assist shifting of special European transmissions which require an additional delay.
7. PTO Shutdown Timer Service Tool Status Screen Parameter
A PTO shutdown timer service tool status parameter has been added which reflects the progress of the PTO shutdown timer. This parameter will be similar to the current status information provided for the Idle Shutdown feature. In addition, a new 71-14 PTO Shutdown Timer Occurrence (47) diagnostic code is introduced with the AUG96 software.
8. Oil Pressure Display On Electronic Service Tool
Engine oil pressure is now displayed even when engine monitoring is programmed to OFF. This display can be monitored on ECAP,
