Upgrading the Control Box Firmware
If the AccuGrade/GCS900 control box runs a previous version of firmware, the firmware may be upgraded to v12.61 required for functionality with the new Machine ECM and Monitor ECM software.Note: AccuGrade/GCS900 v12.61 and v12.60 firmware requires a "Software Expiry Date" on or later than 27February 2014. If the "Software Expiry Date" on the CB460 control box is earlier than 27February 2014 when the control box is updated to v12.60+, the control box will fail to function until an earlier version of firmware is installed or the "Software Expiry Date" is renewed.Note: If the CB4x0 Control Box cannot be updated to v12.61 because the "Software Expiry Date" expired before the v12.60 release date and the CB4x0 Control Box is a non-rental unit owned by the Cat Grade Control machine owner and dedicated to Cat Grade Control machines, then Caterpillar will support the GCS900/AccuGrade v12.61 required for seamless AccuGrade/GCS900 operation with new Cat Grade Control software. In these cases, contact the Caterpillar Dealer Solution Network and direct a ticket to the Cat Grade Control group for assistance. Be prepared to provide a CB4x0 snap and proof of purchase.Note: Do not connect or disconnect any devices during the upgrades.Starting the Control Box in Manager Mode
Manager mode allows access to additional menu items which are not available in the standard operating mode. These menu items control the configuration of the system as a whole, and are normally used when installing and configuring the system. To start the system in Manager mode, press and hold "OK" button as you press the "Power" button. Make sure that you hold down "OK" button until the opening screen appears.Saving Machine Settings
Before upgrading, Caterpillar recommends saving the machine and display settings and copying the settings (*.mch and .dsp) files onto your computer.Gathering Required Files
Locate the AccuGrade/GCS900 v12.61 firmware on the Trimble partners website.(http://heavyandhighwaypartners.trimble.com) or Caterpillar Service Information System(https://sis.cat.com) and down load the correct firmware file for the control box being upgraded:
For CB450 control boxes, copy the *.SG3 file for firmware upgrade
For CB460 control boxes, copy the *.SG4 file for firmware upgradeNote: The AccuGrade/GCS900 firmware available on the Caterpillar Service Information System (SIS) may be located by navigating to the "Downloads" page listed under "Highlights" on the main SIS page and scrolling down to the AccuGrade Software section. Control box Operating System (OS) files are also available in same zip folder as the control box firmware.Note: The AccuGrade/GCS900 control boxes include a duration of time where the firmware may be updated at no cost. This supported time is indicated by the software expiry date. As long as the firmware release date is earlier than the software expiry date, the firmware will function properly when the control box is updated. If the software expiry date is before the v12.60 release date of 27February 2014, operation will be locked after a software update.
