Personal injury can result if the machine moves while testing the parking brake.If the machine begins to move during the test, reduce the engine speed immediately and apply the service brakes.
Check the area around the machine. Make sure that the machine is clear of personnel and clear of obstacles.

(1) Steering frame lock in the stored position.Make sure that the steering frame lock (1) is in the STORED position.Test the parking brake on a dry, level surface.Fasten the seat belt before testing the parking brake.The following test is used to determine if the parking brake is functional. This test is intended to measure the maximum brake holding effort. The brake holding effort that is required to prevent a machine from moving at a specific engine rpm varies depending on the machine. The variations are the differences in the engine setting, in the power train efficiency, and in the brake holding ability.
Start the engine. Raise the bucket slightly.
Engage the parking brake. Place the transmission direction and speed control in the SECOND SPEED FORWARD position. Place the transmission auto/manual switch in the MANUAL position. Note: When the transmission is shifted to the SECOND SPEED FORWARD position and the parking brake is engaged, a Warning Category 3 will occur.
Gradually increase the engine speed up to 2000 RPM. The machine should not move.
Reduce the engine speed to low idle. Place the transmission direction and speed control in the NEUTRAL position.
Lower the bucket to the ground. Stop the engine.
If the machine moved while testing the parking brake, inspect the parking brake components for wear or damage. Repair or replace the worn or damaged parking brake components as required before returning the machine to service.
