PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REWORKING THE CAN BUS WIRING INTO THE PRODUCT LINK CONNECTOR OF THE CONSOLE HARNESS
MODELS INVOLVED - CERTAIN AP-1055D AND AP-1000D ASPHALT PAVERS; AND CERTAIN BG-2455D AND BG-260D BARBER GREENE ASPHALT PAVERS MANUFACTURED BY CATERPILLAR
Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The CAN bus wiring into the Product Link connector of the console harness needs to be reworked on the products listed below. The existing wiring configuration can cause the engine ECM to get locked up when uploading engine software to the engine ECM. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 18Dec2008 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
1. Turn OFF the power and battery disconnect key.
2. Open the center console front panel.
3. Locate the product link connector of the console harness (part number 319-9421).

4. Remove the product link connector retaining bolt (making it possible to see the machine side of the connection and access the wires).
Note: The machine side has no harness wrap while the product link side of the connector is wrapped in yellow.

5. Using a pin removal tool (part number 151-6320), remove the F711 (green) wire from pin location 8.
6. Remove the F712 (gray) wire from pin 7 and put it in pin location 8.
7. Put the F711 (green) in pin location 7.
Note: Make sure both pins click and lock into place securely. Pull test to check.
8. Put the connector back in place and replace the connector retaining bolt.
9. Close the panel door and turn ON the battery disconnect key.
