Illustration 1 g01114242The ECM monitors the primary contacts of the implement enable relay coil and will activate a diagnostic code if an abnormal condition occurs, however, the ECM does not monitor the relay contacts. Either of these components could cause the vibratory system or the grade and slope system not to receive power. Some other system components that could cause the vibratory system or the grade and slope system to not be powered correctly are:
Vibratory circuit breaker (CB 5) is open.
Grade circuit breaker (CB 7) is open.
Vibratory switches malfunctioning.
Vibratory solenoid malfunctioning.
Grade relay malfunctioning.
Time delay relay malfunctioning. If either the grade and slope system or the vibratory system is not operating correctly, perform the following diagnostic procedures.Test Step 1. Check Circuit BreakersThe key switch is OFF.
Check for an open at the vibratory circuit breaker (CB 5).
Check for an open at the grade circuit breaker (CB 7). Expected Result:Either the vibrator circuit breaker or the grade circuit breaker is open. Results:
OK - A circuit breaker is open.Repair: Reset the circuit breaker that is open. If the circuit breaker opens again within a short period of time, there may be a problem with a component in the system or with the machine wiring harness. If the problem is not corrected, other components or wiring could be damaged. Refer to the Electrical System Schematic for this machine for detailed circuit information.STOP
NO - The circuit breakers are not open. If the vibratory system is not working correctly, proceed to Test Step 2. If the grade system is not working correctly proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 2. Check Vibrator Switch TS18 And implement Enable RelayThe key switch is OFF.
At vibrator switch TS18, place a jumper wire across switch contact 2 (wire P841-PU(Purple)) to switch contact 1 (wire P842-GN(Green)).
Set the parking brake, move the speed lever to the NEUTRAL position and start the engine.
Put the machine in PAVE gear and slowly increase the engine speed to high idle.
Move the speed lever into the FORWARD position.
Move the vibrator switch TS18 to the ON position. Vibrator switch TS19 remains in the OFF position. At the vibrator switch TS19 use a multimeter to measure the DC voltage from contact 2 (wire P842-GN(Green)) to frame ground.
Observe the DCV measurement as the jumper across the contacts of vibrator switch TS18 is removed. Expected Result:The DCV measurement is between 21 DCV and 29 DCV and does not change when the jumper across Switch TS18 is removed. Results:
OK - The correct DC voltage does not change at contact 2 of vibrator switch TS19 when the jumper is removed. The implement enable relay and vibrator switch TS18 are working properly. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The DCV measurement is not correct. Either the vibrator switch TS18 or the implement enable relay are not working correctly.Repair: If the voltage measurement was OK until the jumper was removed, vibrator switch TS18 is not working. If the voltage measurement was not OK before the jumper was removed, the implement enable relay is not working. Replace either the switch
