Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Make sure that the mating surfaces of the rear axle assembly and of the rear loader frame are clean prior to the installation of the rear axle assembly.

Position rear oscillating axle (10) under the rear main frame, as shown.
Attach Tooling (B) to both ends of rear oscillating axle (10).
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to Tooling (B). The weight of rear oscillating axle (10) is approximately 6830 kg (15050 lb).

Apply Tooling (C) to dowels (15) and (16).
Raise rear oscillating axle (10). Make sure that dowels (15) and (16) are aligned with the holes in the rear main frame.

Install bolts (13) that secure rear trunnion support (14) to the rear main frame. Tighten bolts (13) to a torque of 1150 150 N m (850 110 lb ft).

Install bolts (12) that secure front trunnion support (11) to the rear main frame. Tighten bolts (12) to a torque of 1150 150 N m (850 110 lb ft).

Place a suitable block between rear oscillating axle (10) and the rear main frame on both sides of the machine. This will keep rear oscillating axle (10) from oscillating during the installation procedure.
Remove the suitable lifting device and Tooling (B).

Connect tube assembly (8) to the rear trunnion support. If necessary, install tube assembly (9).

Connect harness assembly (5) to the temperature sensor.
Connect hose assembly (7) to the rear oscillating axle.

Connect tube assembly (6).
Connect clips (4) that secure harness assembly (5) to the rear oscillating axle.
Connect hose assembly (3), hose assembly (2), and hose assembly (1).
Fill the rear oscillating axle housing and the final drive assemblies with oil. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil - Change".
Purge the air from the rear service brakes. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Brake System Air - Purge".
Check the oil level of the hydraulic tank for the steering system and for the braking system. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level (Steering and Brake) - Check". End By:
Install the rear tires and the rims. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim (Rear) - Remove and Install".
Install the rear drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Rear) - Remove and Install".
Install the crankcase guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankcase Guard - Remove and Install".
