1. Put spindle (2) on strut rod (1), in the suspension cylinder.2. Do not install shims (3) when plate (4) is installed with 3 bolts (5) 120° apart. Torque for bolts ... 150 20 lb. ft.(205 25 N m)3. Measure the distance between the end of strut rod (1) and plate (4) through three of the holes with no bolts, then remove plate (4).4. The correct thickness of shims (3) to use is the average of the three measurements in Step 3 less .165 .001 in. (4.19 0.03 mm). The thickness of shims (3) to use must not be less than .025 in. (0.64 mm).5. Install thickness of shims (3), from Step 3, plate (4) and the 9 bolts (5). Torque for bolts (5) ... 800 25 lb. ft.(1090 35 N m) After shims (3) and plate (4) are installed with all of bolts (5) tight, the clearance between strut rod (1) and plate (4) can not be more than .005 in. (0.13 mm).
To avoid possible personal injury from the sudden release of the spindle from the strut rod or the snapping of a bolt when removing plate (4), loosen all bolts (5) one half turn. Do this again and again until the torque for the bolts is released.
