PROBLEM
The stick may crack on certain 312D 2L Excavators. The stick may develop cracks, at or around the pivot casting weld or along the body weld of the side plate to rear wrapper plate. If the cracks are not repaired in a timely manner, the cracks may propagate and cause further damage to the stick.

Note: Before beginning the following Rework Procedure, please review and understand the Operation and Maintenance Manual for safety information and safe working practices before starting this Rework Procedure.
IMPORTANT: If the stick is replaced please use the Service Letter, submit a warranty claim and attach pictures to the claim. If the stick needs to be repaired, please create a DSN-Product Health ticket for direction and repair instructions as needed. Please also attach pictures of the failed stick including actual operating hours, and the cracking location when submitting the DSN ticket.
IMPORTANT: If the affected machine has less than 4000 hours, replace the failed stick with a new correct length stick. 2.5M Stick Assembly Part Number is 393-4055. 3.0M Stick Assembly Part Number is 393-4028. If the affected machine has more than 4000 hours, the failed stick can be weld repaired or replaced at the dealers discretion based on the commercial situation. If the stick is replaced, refer to the proration table in the Service Claim Allowance section of this letter.
When claiming for repairs, refer to the Service Claim Allowances table for the correct claim allowances for the type of repair performed. The actual repair performed should be detailed in the claim story in the format that is shown in the example below.
R&I for rework or replacement is ? 6 hours

Repair for a pivot casting weld repair is up to 6 hours and $600 misc
