Limit Switch (Steering Control Position) - Test and Adjust
Introduction
Assembly configuration of the limit switch and bracket can cause improper switch Over Travel (OT). If the switch is not properly over traveled, then armrest latch/hinge wear can cause intermittent actuation of the limit switch. For example, if the bracket and switch are pushed to outer extremes, the switch may not operate properly.Replacement
During Assembly, prior to torque, push the switch and bracket together. Push from the bottom of the bracket which will force a counterclockwise direction.
Install 353-5983 Limit Switch As to the left-hand pod. Use two 1P-7326 Washers, two 6V-9325 Screws. Secure the harness using one 3S-2093 Cable Strap and one 7K-1181 Cable Strap .Note: Apply thread locking compound to screws before installation.Adjust

(1) 305-2333 Bracket As (2) 353-5983 Limit Switch As
With fasteners loosened, rotate the 305-2333 Bracket As (1) counterclockwise toward the 353-5983 Limit Switch As (2). Also, push the 353-5983 Limit Switch As (2) toward the 305-2333 Bracket As (1). This process ensures proper switch operating position.
Torque the 353-5983 Limit Switch As (2) screws to 0.7 0.15 N m (0.5 0.1 lb ft). Torque the 127-2170 Screws for the305-2333 Bracket As (1) to 28 7 N m (20.7 5.2 lb ft)Test
Illustration 2 g03256878
Start by placing the left-hand pod in the fully down latched position. The adjuster housing striker should be fully captive in the latch. Refer to the Illustration 2.

(3) Lever arm (4) Switch housing (A) 4 mm (0.16 inch) shim
Use a 4 mm (0.16 inch) shim (A) to measure the gap between the 353-5983 Limit Switch As (2) lever arm (3) and switch housing (4). The shim (A) should not slide through.Note: Make sure that the left-hand pod is fully down and in the latched position.
If the 4 mm (0.16 inch) shim (A) can slide between the switch lever arm and housing, while the adjuster housing striker is latched, then adjustment/repair must be made.
Illustration 4 g03257143
The 353-5983 Limit Switch As (2) is properly overtravelled if a 4 mm (0.16 inch) shim (A) will NOT travel between the lever arm (3) and switch housing (4) when the adjuster housing striker is fully captive in the latch. Refer to the Illustration 4.
