Disconnect the fuel outlet pipe from the fuel transfer pump.
Install a pressure gauge that can measure a pressure of up to 70 kPa (10 psi) to the outlet of the fuel transfer pump.
Release the connection at the gauge and operate the priming lever of the fuel transfer pump to eliminate air from the pipe.
When fuel, free of air, flows from the pipe tighten the connection. Ensure that there are no leaks at the connections between the pump and the gauge.
Operate the starting motor for 10 seconds with the engine stop control in the stop position or with the stop solenoid disconnected.
If the pressure on the gauge indicated is less than 26 kPa (3.77 psi) repair or renew the fuel transfer pump.
Check the rate at which the pressure reduces to half the maximum pressure obtained. If the rate is less than 30 seconds, repair or renew the fuel transfer pump.
Remove the gauge and connect the outlet pipe to the transfer pump.
Release the vent screw on the fuel filter head. Operate the priming lever until fuel, free of air, flows from the vent screw. Tighten the vent screw.
Connect the engine stop solenoid.
