Use Tooling (H) in order to remove cover assembly (2). Make sure that the planetary assembly does not slide forward when cover assembly (2) is being removed. This will keep contamination out of the planetary gears.

The planetary gear group is being held onto the sprocket housing at this time only by Tooling (E ). The approximate weight of the planetary group is 163 kg (360 lb). Be careful not to allow the planetary gear group to slide forward.
Remove bolts (3) and ring gear (4) from cover assembly (2). Apply Tooling (F) onto cover assembly (2). Install the cover assembly (2 ) onto the final drive. Install bolts (1), and tighten in order to hold oil in the final drive. Fill final drive with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Final Drive - Oil Change".

Fully extend the stick cylinder. Raise or lower the boom until the end of stick (5) is approximately the same height as the bottom of the counterweight.
Position stick (5) onto Tooling (A).

Remove right hand boom cylinder (6) .

Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (B). The weight of Tooling (B) is approximately 102 kg (225 lb). Use the suitable lifting device in order to position Tooling (B) to the machine. Adjust the length of Tooling (B). Install the bolts, the washers, and the nuts that hold Tooling (B) together. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 360 50 N m (266 37 lb ft). Install Tooling (B) in place of the right hand boom cylinder.
Release the hydraulic system pressure.
Drain the hydraulic tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil - Change".

Slowly loosen bolts (7) in order to allow cover (8) to be lowered. Remove bolts (7) and rotate cover (8) out of the way.

Remove tee (13). Disconnect hose assemblies (12) and (9) .
Remove fittings (11) (not shown). Remove bolts (10).

Position Tooling (C) and Tooling (D) under the machine.

Disconnect grease tube (14). Remove two of bolts (15). Install Tooling (E) for installation purposes.
Remove the remainder of bolts (15) .
Use Tooling (A), Tooling (C), and Tooling (D) in order to raise the upper structure off the undercarriage. Raise the upper structure until the upper structure is above the swivel joint. Adjust the height of all Tooling in order to keep the upper structure level. The weight of the upper structure is approximately 17890 kg (39440 lb).

Install a suitable towing device onto undercarriage frame assembly (16). Use a suitable towing device and slowly pull undercarriage frame assembly (16) away from the upper structure. The weight of undercarriage frame assembly (16) is approximately 9324 kg (20555 lb).
