Remove the input speed sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Speed Sensor (Transmission) - Remove".
Remove the gear pump for the torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump (Torque Converter and Transmission) - Remove".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all harness assemblies, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove hose (1) .

Disconnect harness assembly (2) , harness assembly (3) , and hose assembly (4) .

Attach Tooling (A) , Tooling (B) , Tooling (C) , and a suitable lifting device to torque converter (6) . The weight of torque converter (6) is approximately 590 kg (1300 lb).
Remove bolts (5) and separate torque converter (6) from transmission (7) .
