Install a 189-0410 Shackle As (15) to each of the four lifting points (16) of the generator.
Attach a suitable lifting device to each shackle (15).

Use the suitable lifting device enough to support the weight of the generator. Note: The generators can weigh from 2041 kg (4500 lb) to 4536 kg (10000 lb).
Record the number of shims (20) that are placed under each mounting bolt (21).

Remove the generator mounting bolts (21).
Remove the front adapter bracket mounting bolts (23) that assemble the generator to the engine (22).

Remove the generator. Lift the generator just enough, with the lifting device, in order to slide the generator on the rail. Pry the generator and push the generator away from the engine while the generator is suspended by the lifting device. Note: Do not lift the generator any more than is necessary in order to slide the generator on the rail. The generator can be lifted higher after the rotor pilot shaft is completely clear from the engine flywheel.Note: The generators can weigh from 2041 kg (4500 lb) to 4536 kg (10000 lb).

The two bearing generator removal procedure is very similar to the single bearing removal the procedure.
Remove the terminal box. Refer to the "Terminal Box - Remove and Install" section for information in order to remove the terminal box.
Attach a suitable lifting device (28) to the generator. The point of attachment varies with the size of the generator.

Remove the bolts (29) which fasten the generator to the base.

Remove the shield (30) (for 1800 frame generators) and the screen (31).

Remove the bolts (35) which fasten the coupling outer ring to the engine flywheel. Refer to Illustration 15. Note: There are three different couplings that are used. Refer to "Coupling - Remove" section in this manual. The single bearing generators use the coupling consisting of several metal disc plates. On two bearing generators, the rubber that is in the shear coupling elements will separate during the disassembly. The rubber that is in the compression coupling will need to be disassembled from the flywheel.

Remove the bolts (34) that fasten the generator close coupling adapter to the flywheel housing.
Separate the generator from the engine. Remove the generator. Place the generator on solid blocking material which will not allow the generator to roll.

If required, then remove the bolts (38) which fasten the coupling (37) to the hub (40).

If necessary, remove the hub (40) that is on the two bearing generator. Note: The process to remove the hub (40) may vary, depending on the generator. Also, the process in order to install the hub may vary as well.
