Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Release the steering system pressure. Refer to Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release" for the machine being serviced.

Steering frame lock installed
(1) Steering frame lock
Install steering frame lock (1). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Steering Frame Lock" for the machine being serviced.Test Procedure

Steering control valve
(1) Pressure tap
(2) Pressure adjusting screw
Remove the protective cover from pressure tap (1). Connect Tooling (B) to pressure tap (1).
Start the engine. Operate the engine at the high idle rpm with the transmission in neutral.
Turn the machine against the steering frame lock. This action will cause the relief valve to open.
Attempt to turn the machine in both directions and observe the pressure on the gauge.
If the pressure is not the same in both directions, there is a problem in the shuttle (ball resolver) of the steering control valve. If the pressure is the same in both directions, but the pressure is not correct, adjust the spring tension of the relief valve. Refer to Table 1 for the
