Electric Power GenerationC7.1 GEN SET (S/N: WG31-258)Description Of Change: The DC loom on certain C7.1 Generator Sets could potentially experience a thermal deformation. The DC wire loom, which is located beneath the turbocharger, may incur deformation as a result of the existing routing of the wire loom. This assembly concern has been resolved at the factory level. If this concern is identified, perform the following wire loom routing adjustment.Adaptable To: The 491-9572 Control Harness As is experiencing thermal damage due to routing near the turbocharger. High heat radiating from the turbocharger is causing these harnesses to melt during operation.

Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.
Perform the following procedure:

Coolant level sensor connector on top of radiator
(1) Coolant level sensor connector
Disconnect the Coolant Level Sensor Connector (1) at the top of the radiator. Refer to Illustration 1.

Tie strap locations to be cut
(2) Tie straps
Remove the tie strap (2) from the clips. Refer to Illustration 2.

Engine Block Screw

Loosen engine block screw (3). Refer to Illustration 3.

Charging alternator nuts
(4) Alternator nuts
Loosen the nuts (4) of the Engine Charging Alternator. Refer to Illustration 4.

Loom routing beneath oil line
(5) Oil line
Reroute the DC loom beneath the turbocharger oil line (5). Refer to Illustration 5. Loom should be approximately 200 mm (7.87 inch) beneath the bottom of the turbocharger.
Tie strap the DC loom back to the bottom of the ladder clips.
Reconnect the Engine Charging Alternator nuts, tighten to as follows:
Nut M6 – 12 N m (106.21 lb in)
Nut M5 – 7.5 N m (66.38 lb in)
Retighten the engine block screw, tighten to 55 N m (486.79 lb in).
Reconnect Coolant Level Sensor connector.
