Install Tooling (A) to hold the ball stud (5) while the locknut (6) is being loosened.
Illustration 4 g00939917Note: Do not remove the locknut (6) completely from the ball stud (5) until the ball stud has been broken loose from the taper.
Use Tooling (B) to loosen the locknut (6). Loosen the locknut until the locknut is even with the bottom of the ball stud (5).

Position Tooling (C) between the steering link (4) and the steering arm (7), as shown.
Strike Tooling (C) with a hammer.
Repeat Steps 3 through 6 to loosen ball stud (6) at the opposite end of the steering link (4).

Position Tooling (D) to support the weight of steering link (4). The weight of the steering link is approximately 115 kg (254 lb).
Remove locknut (6) from each ball stud (5).
Remove steering link (4).
Repeat Steps 1 through 10 to remove the opposite steering link.Installation Procedure

(1) Available SubstituteNote: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the installation procedure, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble.Note: Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts.
Apply Tooling (F) to the threads and on the taper of ball stud (5).

Support the weight of steering link (4) with Tooling (D). The weight of the steering link is approximately 115 kg (254 lb).
Install steering link (4).

Apply Tooling (F) to the face of locknut (6). Install locknut (6) on ball stud (5), as shown.
Repeat Step 4 for the ball stud on the opposite end of steering link (4).
Install Tooling (A) to hold the ball stud while the locknut is being tightened.

Use Tooling (B) to install locknut (6). Tighten the locknut to a torque of 2060 100 N m (1519 74 lb ft).

Install plug (2). Use Tooling (E) to install retaining ring (3) onto the ball stud. Install retaining ring (3).

Connect lubrication hose (1) to the plug (2).
Repeat Steps 6 through 9 to complete the installation of steering link (4).
Repeat Steps 1 through 10 to install the opposite steering link.
After the steering links are installed, check the front wheel alignment. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Front Wheel - Align" for the correct procedure.
