The Tire Monitoring Module is shown mounted on the right side of the dashboard. This diagnostic code is recorded when the Tire Monitoring ECM does not send the necessary parameters to the Chassis ECM at the proper rate. The update rate for parameters that are generated by the Tire Monitoring ECM is not correct. The communication failure may be due to disconnected connectors or a faulty wiring harness. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The Tire Monitoring ECM has the incorrect software.
The Chassis ECM has the incorrect software.
Incompatible software may be installed.
The fuse for the Tire Monitoring ECM may have failed.Test Step 1. CHECK THE TIRE MONITORING ECM AND THE CHASSIS ECM FOR PROPER SOFTWARE VERSIONS.
Use Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) in order to verify that the versions of software are compatible.Expected Result:The proper versions of software are installed on the Tire Monitoring ECM and the Chassis ECM.Results:
OK - The versions of software are compatible. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The proper software is not installed.Repair: Flash the proper software to the appropriate ECM. Cycle the key start switch in order to initialize the new software. Ensure that the diagnostic code is no longer active.STOPTest Step 2. RECHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC CODES.
Ensure that the CID 3473 FMI 14 diagnostic code is active.Expected Result:The diagnostic code is inactive. The diagnostic code indicator is inactive. Results:
OK - The diagnostic code indicator and the diagnostic code are inactive.Repair: Clear the diagnostic code.STOP
NOT OK - The diagnostic code is active.Repair: Ensure that the proper software is installed before replacing the ECM. If the software is correct, the Chassis ECM may have failed. A failure of the Chassis ECM is unlikely. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact the Technical Communicator for your dealership for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. If the ECM requires replacement, refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace" Section of this manual.STOP
