MID 087 - Chassis ECMCID 1240 - Hoist Control to Tank Rod SolenoidFMI 05 - Current Below Normal
Illustration 1 g02538797
Hoist Control to Tank Rod Solenoid circuit
Note: The approximate coil resistance of the solenoid is 5 ohms at 25 °C (77 °F).This diagnostic code indicates the Chassis ECM determined the Hoist Control to Tank Rod Solenoid current is below normal. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:The following can cause this code:
Open solenoid energize circuit
Open solenoid e return circuit
Failed solenoid
Failed ECMNote: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 1240 FMI 05 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a calibrated digital multimeter for this procedure.System Response:
Hoist system not able to raise the body in the first stage of the cylinders
Machine not able to raise the bed
Hoist system has normal operation in the lower mode, float mode and the hold modeWhen the diagnostic goes away, the following occurs:
The ECM will continue to command this output OFF until the hoist system goes into the lower mode, float mode or hold mode.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
Disconnect the solenoid from the harness.
At the harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire J827-GN(Green)) to contact 2 (wire H861-PU(Purple)).
Check CID 12408 FMI 05 status. Expected Result:CID 1240 FMI 05 is active. Results:
OK - CID 1240 FMI 05 is active. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - CID 1240 FMI 05 is not active. The solenoid has failed.Repair: Replace the solenoid.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK FOR AN OPENThe jumper wire that was installed in the previous test step remains in place.
Turn off the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
Disconnect the harness from the ECM.
At the harness connector, measure the resistance from signal contact J1-52 (wire J827-GN(Green)) to contact J1-50 (wire H861-PU(Purple)). Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. There is an open in wire J827-GN(Green) or wire H861-PU(Purple).Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 3. INSPECT HARNESSThe keyswitch and the disconnect switch remain off.
Inspect the harness. Clean the harness connector contacts.Inspect the harness connector contacts for corrosion or damage.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each circuit wire.
Check for intermittent problems. Using Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET), perform a wiggle test on the harness.
Reconnect all harness connectors. Verify that the connectors are fully seated and the clips are fastened.
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
Operate the machine.
Check CID 1240 FMI 05 status. Expected Result:CID 1240 FMI 05 is not active. Results:
OK - CID 1240 FMI 05 is not active. Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor connection at one of the connectors that was checked. Resume normal operation.STOP
NOT OK - CID 1240 FMI 05 is active. The
