This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4253" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the January 19, 1998 (Revised March 1998) Service Letter. Changes have been made to the title.

The transmission 2HL70 may fail because of internal contamination. The pressure relief valve sticks which results in lack of lubrication to transmission and causes a malfunction of the downshift inhibitor.

Replace the 1355330 Pressure Relief Valve with an improved 1495881 Pressure Relief Valve. See the attached Rework Procedure.

1. Remove the 1355330 Pressure Relief Valve.2. Install the improved 1495881 Pressure Relief Valve using an 8 mm hex driver socket. To get good access to the valve located at the downshift inhibitor of the transmission use sockets in the shortest version. See Illustration 1.
