This diagnostic code is recorded when the data from the selector for the engine retarder is not available on the J1939 Data Link. The data link is not the cause of this diagnostic trouble code.Note: The illustration for the J1939 Data Link may not represent all of the connections for the components that are on machines that are covered by this manual. Refer to the electrical system schematic for your machine in order to verify the J1939 Data Link connections.The possible causes of the diagnostic trouble code are listed:

OK - The Engine control unit has active diagnostic codes.Repair: Perform the procedures for the retarder. Verify that clearing the diagnostic trouble codes on the Engine control unit has corrected the problem.STOP
NOT OK - The Engine control unit does not have active diagnostic codes for the retarder.Repair: Contact your dealership for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time.STOP
