Battery Disconnect Switch
The battery disconnect switch is located on the battery compartment, on the left side.
Illustration 29
ON - Insert the key. Turn it clockwise to activate the electrical system. The switch must be on before starting the engine.
OFF - Turn the key counterclockwise to shut off the entire electrical system. The disconnect switch serves a different function than the keyswitch. When turned off, the disconnect switch disables the entire electrical system. When only the keyswitch is turned off, the battery remains connected to the electrical system.Turn the disconnect switch off and remove the key when servicing the electrical system or other components on the machine.Turn the battery disconnect switch key to OFF and remove the key when leaving the machine for an extended period of a month or longer. This will prevent battery drain by short circuits or current draw made by some of the components, and by vandalism.
Never turn the disconnect key to OFF with the engine running. Electrical system damage could result.
Keyswitch (4 Postion) (If Equipped)
Make sure both throttle switches are in LO and both loader switches are OFF before starting the engine. Contact with moving parts can cause personal injury or death.
Illustration 30 O-OFF - Turn the keyswitch key to OFF to stop the engine. Insert and remove key from the OFF position only. R-RUN - Turn the keyswitch key clockwise to RUN to activate the electrical circuits and gauges. H-HEAT - Turn the keyswitch to HEAT for 15-30 seconds if the engine is hard to start in cold weather. When the switch is released, it will return to RUN. HS-HEAT START - Turn the keyswitch to HS to crank the engine. The engine preheater remains on during cranking. Release the switch as soon as the engine starts. It should return to RUN.
Be sure the starter motor and fywheel have stopped rotating before engaging starter again.
Keyswitch (2 Position) (If Equipped)
Early model machines may be equipped with a two-position key switch and a start button.
