Wipe all fittings before lubricating.Tractor
1. Open the right side access door (if equipped). 2. Lubricate one fitting on the fan bearing.3. Lubricate one fitting on the belt adjusting pulley.4. Close the engine access door (if equipped).Total of two fittings.Scraper
Lubricate one fitting on the fan bearing.Fan and Alternator Belts
Inspect/Adjust/Replace
The following procedure applies to both the tractor and scraper engines. 1. Open the access door (if equipped). Replace the belts in sets only, if one or more belts are worn or damaged. 2. Inspect the condition and the adjustment of tractor alternator belts. The belts should deflect 14.0 to 20.0 mm (.56 to .81 in) under 110 N (25 lb) force. 3. Inspect the condition and the adjustment of scraper alternator belts. The belts should deflect 14.0 to 20.0 mm (.56 to .81 in) under 110 N (25 lb) force.Alternator Belt Adjustment
The following procedure applies to both the tractor and scraper engines. 1. Loosen alternator bracket bolt (1). Loosen the adjusting locknut (2). 2. Tighten the adjusting nut (3) until the belt tension is reached. Tighten the adjusting locknut (2) to 150 20 N m (110 15 lb ft). 3. Tighten the alternator bracket bolt (1).4. Close the access door (if equipped).Air Conditioner (If Equipped)
Inhaling air conditioner refrigerant gas through a lit cigarette or other smoking method or inhaling fumes released from a flame contacting air conditioner refrigerant gas can cause bodily harm or death. Do not smoke when servicing air conditioners or wherever refrigerant gas may be present.
Test Operation - Adjust Belt
1. Start the tractor engine. Operate the engine at high idle. 2. Set the air conditioner control for maximum cooling, and fan control on HIGH.3. Allow two minutes for the air conditioning system to stabilize. 4. Check for refrigerant in the system as follows: Feel the suction line (1) and the discharge line (2).If the system contains refrigerant, the discharge line will be warmer than the suction line.If the system does not contain, or is very low on refrigerant, poor cooling will result.5. Stop the engine to inspect the compressor belt. 6. Inspect the condition and the adjustment of the compressor belt. The belt should deflect 14.0 to 20.0 mm (.56 to .81 in) under 110 N (25 lb) force. To Adjust
1. Loosen the compressor locknut. 2. Turn the adjusting nuts until the correct belt tension is reached. Tighten the adjusting nuts to 150 20 N m (110 15 lb ft).3. Tighten the compressor locknut.4. Recheck the belt adjustment.5. Repeat Steps 1 through 3.6. If poor cooling is still experienced after starting engine, turn off the air conditioner. Stop the engine. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for air conditioner system service, if necessary.Clean Air Conditioner Evaporator Coil
1. Remove the cover on the front of the cab.2. Clean the evaporator coil. Use a vacuum cleaner, if necessary.Air Dryer
Check for Moisture
1. Open the air reservoir drain valve.2. Check for moisture in the reservoirs. Close the drain valve. 3. If moisture is present
