Axle Oil Cooler
Illustration 1 g03852860The axle oil coolers are mounted to a bracket that is attached between the rear frame rails below the engine. The axle oil coolers are oil-to-oil coolers that transfer the heat from the axle oil to the oil returning from the hydraulic oil cooler.

(4) Diverter solenoid

(6) Sequence valveThe optional axle oil cooling system cools the oil in the front and rear axles. The rear axle is shown in the above illustration. The steering pilot/axle oil cooling pump provides oil to rotate the axle oil cooling motor in the axle oil cooling pump and motor group (1). The axle oil cooling motor drives the axle oil cooling pumps. The front and rear axle oil cooling pumps circulate the oil through axle oil filters (2) and oil coolers (3).The cooling pumps pull the high temperature oil from the differential case and send the oil to the oil coolers. The oil coolers remove the heat and return the oil to the axles. The cooler oil enters the axles at each end of the differential case.Oil from the hydraulic fan return circuit flows through the axle oil coolers to cool the axle oil.The power train ECM monitors the axle oil temperature through the front and rear axle oil temperature sensors. The diverter solenoid (4), located on diverter manifold (5), diverts oil from the steering pilot/axle oil cooling pump to the steering pilot system when the axle oil is cold. The diverter valve manifold (5), diverter solenoid (4), and sequence valve (6) are located on the inboard side of the right frame rail. When diverter solenoid (4) is energized, oil from the steering pilot/axle oil cooling pump is directed to the tank. When the diverter solenoid is de-energized, oil from the steering pilot/axle oil cooling pump flows to the axle oil cooling motor to drive the motor.Oil pressure in the steering pilot circuit opens sequence valve (6), which allows oil to flow to the steering pilot valves. When pilot oil pressure deceases below approximately 1000 150 kPa (145 22 psi), sequence valve (6) closes and oil is blocked from flowing to the steering pilot circuit.Axle Oil Cooling System Energized
