"Cat ELC Extender" and the Cooling System Capacity
Cooling System Capacity Recommended Amount of "Cat ELC Extender"
28 L (7.4 US gal) 0.6 L (20 oz) When a Caterpillar Extended Life Coolant (ELC) is used, an extender must be added to the cooling system. See the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule" for the proper service interval. The amount of extender is determined by the cooling system capacity. For additional information about adding an extender, see Special Publication, SEBU6250, "Caterpillar Machine Fluids Recommendations" or consult your Caterpillar dealer.Extended Life Coolant (ELC) Extender
Use a 8T-5296 Coolant Conditioner Test Kit to check the concentration of the coolant.
Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali. At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.Remove filler cap slowly to relieve pressure only when engine is stopped and radiator cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Cooling System Conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
The filler cap is located under the access door on the top, left-hand side of the radiator guard. Loosen the radiator cap slowly in order to relieve pressure. Remove the radiator cap.
Drain some coolant from the radiator, if necessary, so that Extender can be added to the cooling system.Note: Always discard drained fluids according to local regulations.

Refer to table 1. Add the proper amount of "Cat ELC Extender" for your machine based on the cooling system capacity.
Start the engine. Run the engine without the filler cap until the thermostat opens and the coolant level stabilizes. Check for leaks.
