INSPECT PARTS STOCKS FOR CERTAIN 4T1553 ABRASION TIPS 245 Excavators, 992 Loaders, 6805, PI3061 U-50 A-33 AU-42 B-18 C-46 O-37 parts stock action only Problem Some parts stocks of 4T1553 Tips (Abrasion) for buckets on 245 Excavators and 992 Loaders have improper heat treatment. These tips will not give satisfactory life. Action Requested Inspect parts stocks for any 4T1553 Tips that were shipped before January 15, 1984. Remove any tips that have the word "GERMANY" marked in ink inside the tip and have the following heat treatment codes: "MDM, MAR, DDA, MOU, MOE, KDM, MDN. See Illustration for location of these markings and codes. Tips with different heat treatment codes or without the "GERMANY" marking are satisfactory. (SEE ILLUSTRATION) All tips shipped after January 15, 1984 are satisfactory, regardless of the markings. Contact customers who may have these tips in their parts stocks and have them perform the same inspection. Warranty Allowances Submit one claim for all unsatisfactory tips removed from parts stocks. Type "PI3061" in the box labeled "Part No. Causing Failure". Parts Disposition U.S. and Canadian dealers should return all tips removed from parts stocks to: Caterpillar Tractor Co. Williams All other dealers should dispose of the parts in accordance with their Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling. Termination Date September 30, 1984.
