The service interval of the fumes disposal filter is affected by the following conditions:
Engine load
Concentration of soot
Condition of the engine

Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.

(5) Latches that connect the cannister to the cover
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Cat Dealer Service Tool Catalog" or refer to Special Publication, PECJ0003, "Cat Shop Supplies and Tools Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Unclamp the latches and pull down on the cannister to remove the cannister. Note: Removing canister may be difficult while the engine is operating. The canister has negative air pressure while the engine is operating which creates a vacuum.
Remove the used filter. Engine oil may be contained in the filter and in the cannister. Properly contain all fluids.
Remove the O-ring seal on the top end cap of the used element. Install a new O-ring seal onto the top of the new filter.
Remove the O-ring seal from the bottom of the filter. Inspect the used seal for wear and damage. Install an undamaged O-ring seal onto the bottom of the new filter.
Dispose of the used filter.
Install a new filter. Properly align the cannister with the cover and clamp the latches. Note: Caterpillar will not be held liable for an engine that does not comply with emissions standards due to modification of the fumes disposal filter or due to the use of a filter that is not approved by Caterpillar.
