The larger holes will help prevent shearing the manifold bolts when the manifold expands and contracts. If the exhaust manifold flange thickness is 17.0 mm (.67 in), [see Illustration 5, Dimension (Y)], enlarge the existing hole to a 13.0 mm (.51 in) diameter. If the exhaust manifold flange thickness is 33.0 mm (1.30 in), [see Illustration 5, Dimension (X)], Counterbore the existing bolt hole (from the cylinder head side of the flange) to a 13.0 mm (.51 in) diameter, 20.5 mm (.81 in) deep.
