Remove Idler Gears
Remove any tension from the winch cable that can cause the winch drum to turn when an idler gear is removed.
The winch is removed from the machine for illustration purposes only. A low speed winch is shown. 1. Remove cover (1) from the winch case.2. Remove the bolts that hold cage (2) in position. Use 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws to remove cage (2). Keep the shim(s) with the cage. 3. Use tooling (A) to remove the cup from cage (2). Remove the O-ring seal from the cage. 4. Install a hoist on gear (4). Remove ring (3) from gear (4). 5. Remove gear assembly (5) from gear (4).6. Remove gear (4) from the winch case. Weight is 36 lb. (16 kg). 7. Remove retainer (6) from gear (5). 8. Use tooling (B) to remove the bearings from gear (5). 9. To remove the other cage (7) and idler gear on a low speed winch, follow Steps 2 through 8.10. If the bearing cup(s) for the idler gear(s) in the case must be removed, follow Steps 11 through 17. 11. Install a hoist on the winch drum to hold it in position. Remove nut (8), collar (9) and the O-ring seal from the winch drum shaft. 12. Remove the bolts that hold flange (10) in position. Use two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws to remove the flange. Keep the shim(s) with the flange. 13. Remove ring (11). 14. Install 1/2"-13 NC guide bolts (13) in the support.15. Use 1/2"-13 NC forcing screws (12) to move gear (15) on the guide bolts until there is enough clearance between the winch case and the gear to remove cup (14) and cup (16) (low speed winch only). 16. Use tooling (C) to remove bearing cup (14) from the winch case.17. Use tooling (C) to remove bearing cup (16) (low speed winch only).Install Idler Gears
The winch is removed from the machine for illustration purposes only. A low speed winch is shown.1. Clean and inspect all parts. Make a replacement of all parts that are worn or damaged.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE2. Lower the temperature of bearing cup(s) (1). Use tooling (A) to install the cup(s) in the winch case. 3. Use two 1/2"-13 NC bolts (2), 31/4 in. long to push gear (3) on the support until the original bolts can be installed. Remove bolts (2) and the guide bolts. Tighten the original bolts to a torque of 85 5 lb. ft. (115 7 N m). 4. Install two 3/8"-16 NC guide bolts on the winch case. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the O-ring seal on flange (4). Install shim(s) (5) (which were removed) and the flange. 5. Put clean SAE 30 oil on O-ring seal (6). Install the O-ring seal, collar (7) and nut (8) on the shaft. Tighten the nut to a torque of 500 5 lb. ft. (680 70 N m). 6. Heat bearings (9). Install the bearings on gear(s) (10). 7. Install retainer(s) (11) on gear(s)
