Install the aluminum outer member (33) on the engine flywheel. Place the correct washers under the bolts. Note: The washers and the orientation of the washers are critical. Refer to the procedure in the "Rubber in Shear Type Coupling Installation" section in this manual.
This step is to be performed for generators that are equipped with the rubber in compression type of coupling.

Install the coupling. The coupling must be properly assembled, aligned, and prepared, installed as a complete assembly on the generator drive hub. Refer to the procedure that is in the "Rubber in Compression Type Coupling Installation" section that is in this manual.
Torque the coupling inner hub bolts to the correct torque. Note: Verify that the rotor did not move axially during the installation process. If necessary, repeat Step 3 in order to set the generator end play.
Back out the generator foot jacking bolts (39).

Hoist the generator by the lifting eyes (38). Carefully maneuver the generator toward the engine.
This step is to be performed for generators that are equipped with the rubber in shear type of coupling. While moving the generator toward the engine, rotate the coupling flexible inner element until the inner element slips into the aluminum outer coupling.
Carefully push the generator stator close to the engine flywheel housing. The generator close coupled adapter face lip must slip into the recessed bore in the flywheel housing. Hand screw several of the close coupled adapter (41) mounting bolts (42) into the flywheel housing (40).

The gap between the flywheel housing and the generator adapter must be set while the generator is still supported by the lifting device or by the jacking bolts. Position the stator so that the gap between the flywheel housing and the generator adapter is as uniform as possible.
Add shim under the generator feet as required. Check the gaps at the 3 o'clock, the 6 o'clock, the 9 o'clock, and the 12 o'clock positions. The procedure is to ensure that the gap is even. The gap must be even to ensure that the generator body is vertically and horizontally aligned to the engine flywheel housing.
Snug the close coupled adapter mounting bolts. Carefully monitor the gap between the flywheel housing and the generator close coupled adapter as the bolts are tightened. The gap must be as uniform as possible until near zero. Adjust the shims that are under the generator feet. Move the generator sideways if required. Align the generator. Refer to the "Generator - Align" section of the publication.
This step is to be performed for generators that are equipped with a rubber in compression type of couplings. Attach the coupling to the engine flywheel. Note: The following statement applies to the "rubber in compression" type coupling equipped generators with a correctly prepared axial play. The coupling outer hub mounting flange is slightly away from the flywheel face.
Lift the coupling assembly with a suitable lifting device.
