Put a chamfer at location (C) on each plate of the ripper beam. Chamfer the plates shown in section (A-A). Chamfer the plates shown in section (B-B) .Note: Grind .25 to .50 mm (.010 to .020 inch) deep all along the chamfers in order to remove the carbon smear that was caused by the Arcair gouging.Do not cut a chamfer on the end plate of the multishank ripper beam.

Obtain the measurement for dimension (D). Dimension (D) is the inside distance between plates (4) and (5) .Cut two pieces of 12.7 by 25.4 mm (.50 by 1 inch) high strength carbon steel backup strips (6). Cut the backup strips the same length as dimension (D) .Tack weld backup strips (6) on the bottom of the upper plates. Locate the plates in the position that is shown.

Place the new socket block into position on backup strips (6) .

Ensure that the top socket block has the large, reinforced, end of the block toward the front of the ripper. Ensure the bottom socket block has the large, reinforced, end toward the rear of the ripper, as illustrated.Note: Locate the new socket block in the center of the opening. Ensure the new socket block is aligned with the socket block that is located directly above or below.Use the appropriate procedure for the ripper model that you are repairing.8D (D8L)
Make a 20 mm (0.80 inch) convex bevel groove weld with 100% penetration at location (E) .
Make a 3 mm (.12 inch) square groove weld. Then make a 22 mm (.88 inch) convex bevel groove weld at location (F) on
