IT28B (1HF, 5SD) Integrated ToolcarriersThe latest quick coupler cylinders use a piston retaining nut which is pinned to the piston rod with a spring pin. The spring pin is inserted between two slots of a slotted nut and through a hole in the piston end of the cylinder rod. However, the 6E5394, 9T0737, and 9T5791 Piston Rods used in the 6E5393 Cylinder Group (which are available for parts service), do not have the hole drilled for the spring pin.
To drill the hole for the spring pin, first tighten the slotted nut against the piston to a torque of 55 N m (40 lb ft). Next, drill a 3.23 0.05 mm (.127 .002 in) diameter through hole located approximately 3.81 mm (.150 in) from the piston end of the cylinder rod, and between two of the slots in the nut. Finally, insert the spring pin into the drilled hole.
