Pressurized system: Hot oil can cause serious burns. To open plug, stop engine, wait until axle is cool. The loosen plug slowly to relieve the pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Position the wheels so that final drive drain plug (2) is facing downward. Remove oil filler plug (1). The oil level should be at the bottom of the filler plug opening. Add oil, if necessary.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for the correct type of oil.If the oil is warm, the oil level may be higher than the filler plug opening. Do not allow warm oil to drain out since a lower oil level may result when the oil is cold. Install filler plug (1).

Rear Differential
Remove differential filler plug (3). The oil level should be at the bottom of the filler plug opening.
