Fan drive motor (1) Shaft (2) Case (3) Bearing (4) Swashplate (5) Pistons (6) Barrel assembly (7) Retaining plate (8) Bearing (9) Head (10) Outlet passage (11) Plug (12) Inlet passage (13) Check valveThe parts of the motor that rotate are shaft (1), bearing (3), pistons (5), barrel assembly (6), and bearing (8). The parts that do not rotate are case (2), swashplate (4), retaining plate (7), and head (9) .The fan drive motor is a piston type motor. The motor has a fixed displacement of oil per revolution. The fan drive motor is mounted on the engine hood. The fan blade is rotated by a fan drive motor. The pump sends oil through inlet passage (12). Oil from inlet passage (12) flows through retaining plate (7) and the oil fills the cavity of pistons (5). The pistons are arranged in a circular pattern in the pump. When the oil enters the pistons, the pistons are fully pressed into the barrel assembly. The pistons are forced into the barrel assembly by the position of swashplate (4) .The oil in the cavity of piston (5) begins to extend the piston from the barrel assembly. As the piston begins to move down, the pistons rotate around the swashplate (4). The movement of the barrel assembly causes the shaft to rotate. This turns the fan blade. Shaft (1), piston (5), and barrel assembly (6) continue to rotate. When the pistons move into the cylinders of barrel assembly (6), the pistons push oil out of the barrel's piston bores into outlet (10). Oil from outlet passage (10) flows into the hydraulic oil cooler. The hydraulic oil cooler returns oil to the hydraulic tank. Part of the oil inside barrel assembly (6) is used to lubricate all the bearings and the moving parts. The fan drive motor contains a check valve (13) . Check valve (13) prevents cavitation of the fan drive motor. Also, when the engine speed decreases quickly, the check valve allows oil from the outlet passage (10) to flow into inlet passage (12).
