This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs.The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS52983" as the Part Numberand "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program.Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

PROBLEM
The existing 8N-9706 Tube can crack from insufficient tube clearance on certain 3512C HD, and 3516C HD Marine Engines. If the existing tube fails at expansion tank joint it can/will leak coolant.

ACTION REQUIRED
This program applies only for insufficient tube clearance which may result in a crack failure on the double-upset of the 8N-9706 Tube, or wear on face of 8N-9706 Tube (Image 1). If there is a different failure mode, for example, corrosion, or wear on the tube circumference (Image 2), then this program does not apply.
If there is a crack failure on the double-upset of the 8N-9706 Tube, or wear on face of 8N-9706 Tube, then replace the 8N-9706 Tube with a shorter 475-4256 Tube. Replace the 8N-9609 Flange with a longer 475-4255 Flange. Refer the engine's Operation and Maintenance Manual, and Disassembly and Assembly, UENR0181.
