Remove the lifter assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Lifter Group - Remove and Install".
Remove the camshaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft - Remove".Note: All of the tools that are listed above are used with the 8S-2241 Camshaft Bearing Tool Group.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Install Tool (A). Apply Anti-Seize Compound on the threads.

Position new bearing (2) in Tool (A) and install the bearing from the rear to the front of the engine.
Location of the camshaft bearing lubrication holes is critical. Position the clinch butt joint up for all seven camshaft bearings. The No. 1 camshaft bearing oil hole is located 115 degrees counter clockwise from top center to align with the oil supply passage in the block. Camshaft bearings No. 2 through No. 7 are installed with the oil hole 45 degrees clockwise from top center. All are viewed from the front of the engine. Camshaft bearings 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 are the same width. Camshaft bearing No. 7 has a smaller width. Refer to the Specifications Manual for more information.
