Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Lower the scraper bowl to the ground and engage the parking brake. Chock the wheels in order to prevent the machine from moving.
Drain the hydraulic tank. Drain the fluid into a suitable container. The hydraulic tank has a capacity of 180 L (48 US gal).

Wiring harness (2) is located on the side of the hydraulic tank.
Disconnect two clips (1). Move wiring harness (2) out of the way.

Disconnect electrical connection (3) .
Remove two bolts (4). Place the following components on top of the engine: the fuel lines and the fuel filters.

Remove ten bolts (5). Remove ladder (6) .

Remove four bolts (8). Disconnect hydraulic inlet tube assembly (9) from the hydraulic tank. Remove the O-ring seal.Note: Drain the hydraulic line assemblies downstream in order to reduce hydraulic fluid loss.

Loosen two nuts (10) in order to pry the hydraulic tube assembly away from the tank.

Attach Tool (B) and a suitable lifting device to the fender.

Remove six bolts (11) from the fender.

Remove three bolts (12) .
Remove the fender from the machine. The weight of the fender is 80 kg (176 lb).

Remove four bolts (14) from hydraulic tube assembly (13). Disconnect hydraulic tube assembly (13) from the hydraulic tank. Remove the O-ring seal.

Attach Tooling (A) and Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to the hydraulic tank.
Remove the sixteen bolts and washers that secure the tank to the machine. Remove the hydraulic tank. The weight of the hydraulic tank is 278 kg (613 lb).
