Fabrication and Installation of the Guard Plates

Fabricate the two guard plates according to illustrations 1 and 2.

Install the guard plates (1) and (2) to the outside edge of the C-frame box section with welds (W1) and (W2). Weld the guard plates so the guard plates are flush with the top and bottom sections of the C-frame. Note: This procedure is not recommended for machines with a sound suppression arrangement. This procedure also eliminates the option of using an idler counterweight.

Fabricate the three plugs according to illustration 4.

Weld the three plugs (3) in the idler wheel holes. Weld the plugs even with the idler wheel surface. Use a grinder to remove any excess weld.
