Illustration 1 g03375577The steering pump supplies high-pressure oil for the steering system. The steering pump can also supply supplemental pilot oil for the pilot oil system.During normal operation, the steering pump withdraws oil from hydraulic oil tank. High-pressure oil then travels through one of two routes.In the first route, the oil is sent to selector and pressure control valve. The selector and pressure control valve has a pressure switch that monitors the steering oil pressure. If steering oil pressure drops, an indicator in the cab alerts the operator of the problem.In the second route, the oil flows to relief valve and pressure reducing valve. Pressure reducing valve is responsible for lowering high-pressure oil to pilot oil pressure. The pressure reducing valve allows the steering pump to supply supplemental pilot oil if the pilot oil pump fails during operation.When the operator moves the pilot control valve, pilot oil shifts steering control valve. When steering control valve shifts, high-pressure oil from the steering pumps flows to steering cylinders. This action allows the machine to articulate.An increase in pressure will occur if an outside force tries to steer the machine. The increase in pressure will open steering line relief valves. The steering line relief valves prevent the pressure in the steering cylinders from exceeding specifications.Shuttle valve allows high-pressure oil to travel through a load sensing line. The load sensing line travels back to steering pumps.The secondary steering system provides temporary steering control when the primary steering system does not operate properly. The machines can be equipped with an optional ground driven secondary steering pump. The implement ECM and the machine control ECM monitor the steering and transmission control, steering cylinder position sensors, and the left-hand armrest position. The implement ECM sends a request to the machine control ECM if the secondary steering system needs to be activated. The operator will be notified that the secondary steering system is active. The machine must be moving in order for the secondary steering pump to operate. The secondary steering pump is located on the front of the transfer case housing.
