The following procedure should be performed if the diagnostic indicator does not turn on. Possible causes of failure are listed below:
Loss of battery voltage at the control
Failure in the diagnostic indicator
Failure in the machine harness
Blown fuse in the fuse panel of the machine
Failure in the ECMTest Step 1. CHECK FOR BATTERY VOLTAGE AT THE ECM
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage at the battery terminals of the machine.
Use the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe in order to measure the voltage at the harness connector between contacts 1 and 2.Expected Result:The voltage at the harness connector does NOT vary from the battery voltage by more than 0.5 DCV.Results:
OK - The voltage at the harness connector does NOT vary from the battery voltage by more than 0.5 DCV. The system voltage is correct. Proceed to test step 2.
NOT OK - The voltage at the harness connector varies from the battery voltage by more than 0.5 DCV. Proceed to test step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC INDICATOR
Disconnect the negative C920-GY wire of the indicator from the machine harness.
Ground the negative terminal of the lamp assembly.Expected Result:The indicator turns ON.Results:
OK - The indicator turns ON. The indicator is correct. Stop.
NOT OK - The indicator does NOT turn ON. The indicator is NOT correct.Repair: Replace the indicator. Stop.Test Step 3. CHECK FOR A PROBLEM IN THE HARNESS OF THE INDICATOR
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the ECM.
Jumper ground to connector contact 30 on the harness connector.Expected Result:The indicator turns ON.Results:
OK - The indicator turns ON. The machine harness is correct.Repair: Connect the harness connector to the ECM. If the diagnostic indicator does NOT turn on, the ECM has failed. Replace the ECM. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace". Stop.
NOT OK - The indicator does NOT turn ON. The harness is NOT correct.Repair: Repair the harness or replace the harness. Stop.
