Schematic of the "Joystick Steering Left" Solenoid connections. This diagnostic code is associated with the "Joystick Steering Left" Solenoid. The FMI 03 diagnostic code means the Implement ECM 2 has determined that the voltage of the PWM circuit is above normal. The Left Steering Solenoid and the Right Steering Solenoid are proportional solenoids that are controlled by the Implement ECM 2 PWM driver output. In order to control the solenoids, the Implement ECM 2 will change the current of the PWM output signal according to the position of the thumbwheel.Conditions that can cause this diagnostic code are listed below:
The energize circuit of the solenoid is shorted to another voltage source.
The Implement ECM 2 has failed. This situation is unlikely. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE SOLENOID FOR A SHORT
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the solenoid.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the Implement ECM 2.
At the machine harness connector for the Implement ECM 2, measure the resistance from contact 34 (wire L998-OR) to all contacts of the Implement ECM 2.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The energize circuit is not shorted to another circuit in the machine harness. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - Each resistance measurement is not greater than 5000 ohms. There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between wire L998-OR and the circuit that has a low resistance measurement. Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE ECMThe disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position. The machine harness connectors for the solenoid and the ECM remain disconnected.
At the machine harness connector for the Implement ECM 2, use a 151-6320 Removal Tool to remove the energize wire of the solenoid (wire L998-OR) and socket at contact 34 from the harness connector.
Reconnect the machine harness connector to the Implement ECM 2.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Observe the status of the active CID 0727 FMI 03 diagnostic code.Expected Result:The CID 0727 FMI 03 diagnostic code is no longer active. A CID 0727 FMI 05 diagnostic code is now active. Results:
YES - The CID 0727 FMI 03 diagnostic code is no longer active. A CID 0727 FMI 05 diagnostic code has been activated after the solenoid
