Note: Within this instruction, the term PC refers to the device on which the utility software is loaded. The term, PC, can be either a desktop personal computer or else a laptop computer.This instruction assists in programming the multiline-2 controller, part number 238-4635 using the Cat version NEXG-5078 of the utility software.Configuration file changes supplied by the manufacturer cause programming issues. A controller that uses new Cat version configuration files cannot be programmed using a PC that is loaded with the old (DEIF) utility software.When the incorrect utility software is used in order to program the controller, the controller may not operate correctly. For example, the starter relay may not operate if incompatible software is used. If the Cat version configuration file is downloaded to the controller using the latest Cat version NEXG-5078 utility software, then the controller should operate correctly.This special instruction provides information of how to determine the compatibility of software versions that are loaded in both the controller and the PC. This special instruction provides information of how to determine if the versions are incompatible and the method for updating the software.For controllers that are in service and operating correctly, no action is needed. The correct files must be loaded in both the controller and in the PC in order to ensure compatibility between the two devices. Use the process flow in this section in order to ensure that the latest configuration file is loaded into the controller. Use the process flow in this section to ensure that the latest utility software is installed on the PC.Each step within the process flow is described in detail in later sections of this Special Instruction.
