Purging The Servo Pilot System
Purge Steering Control Valve End Housings
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Purging The Steering Control Valve View beneath machine (1) Purge valve
Start the engine and open purge valve (1) on the right end housing. Purge the valve until the valve is clear.
Close the purge valve.

Open purge valve (2) on the left end housing. Purge the valve until the valve is clear.

Purging Servo Cylinder (3) Purge valve( left turn) (4) Purge valve (right turn) (5) Servo cylinder
Open purge valve (3) on the end (left turn) of servo cylinder (5) . Purge the servo cylinder until the cylinder is clear.
Close the purge valve.
Slowly, open purge valve (4) at the opposite end of servo cylinder (5) . Purge the valve and clear the valve.

Location Of Right Steering Stop Typical Example
While purge valve (4) is open, turn the steering wheel to the right. Turn the steering wheel until the steering stops contact.
Turn the steering wheel from five to seven revolutions after the stops make contact.
Turn the steering wheel and close the purge valve at the same time.
Slowly, open purge valve (3) while the cylinder is in the position for a left turn. Purge the cylinder and clear the cylinder.
While purge valve (3) is open, turn the steering wheel to the left. Turn the steering wheel until the steering stops contact.

Turn the steering wheel from five to seven revolutions after the stops make contact.
Turn the steering wheel and close the purge valve at the same time.Note: The system should be solid. Repeat the purging procedure if the system is still spongy.Purging Steering Cylinders

Purging Cylinders (1) Purge valve
Start the engine. Turn the machine against either the left or right stop.
With the machine against the stop, open valve (1) at each steering cylinder.
Purge the steering cylinders until the cylinders are free of air.
Close purge valves.
Turn the machine against the stop in the other direction. Open valve (1) at each steering cylinder.
Purge the valve and clear the valve.
Close purge valves.
