( 4 ) N/C = Normally Closed.This switch has two inputs to the ECM. The two inputs are Normally Open and Normally Closed. During normal operation, one of the inputs is open and the other input is grounded. Table 1 shows the continuity of each switch circuit for the two positions of the switch. When a circuit is measured with a voltmeter, an open circuit will measure approximately 5 VDC and a closed circuit will measure approximately 0 VDC. When both inputs are in the same state, a failure is detected. An FMI 04 is recorded when the status of both inputs are grounded.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The Normally Open circuit (wire F795-YL) is shorted to ground.
The Normally closed circuit (wire F794-BU) is shorted to ground.
The Implement tilt lever switch has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.System Response:When this diagnostic code occurs a warning (Category 1) is showing on the monitor. The implement relief pressure is maintained at the lower value of two preset values.Note: Ensure that the CID 0464 FMI 04 is on hold and that the diagnostic code indicator shows "SERV CODE". The diagnostic code will only be present when the tilt lever is in the position which causes both inputs to be closed at the same time. If "SERV CODE" is NOT showing, move the tilt lever to the position that causes "SERV CODE" to show.Test Step 1. CHECK THE NORMALLY CLOSED CIRCUIT FOR PROPER OPERATION.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect machine harness connector D from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector D, measure the resistance from contact D-13 (wire F794-BU) to contact D-15 (wire G939-PK). Expected Result:When the lever is NOT in the TILTBACK position, there should be less than 5 ohms of resistance.Results:
OK - The measurement is within an acceptable range. Proceed to test step 3.
NOT OK - The switch or the machine harness has failed. Proceed to test step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE NORMALLY CLOSED CIRCUIT OF THE SWITCH.This check determines whether the switch or the machine harness has failed.
Disconnect wire F795-YL and wire F794-BU from the limit switch (tilt lever).
At the switch, measure the resistance between the "N/C" terminal and the common terminal.Expected Result:When the lever is NOT in the TILTBACK position, there should be less than 5 ohms of resistance.Results:
