Procedure For Installation Of Body Pads And Shims
Install the body pads and shims with the truck level and the body assembled to frame and hoist cylinders as per service manual for specific model trucks.1. Mark the pad locations on the frame rail using the center mounting block on the body as a guide.2. Raise the body and install body retaining pins. Stack one pad and one shim at each pad mounting location on the frame rail.3. Remove body retaining pins and lower the body until the body is snug against the pads. Locate gaps and add shims as required to close the gaps. [2.0 mm (.08 in) shim increments].4. Raise the body approximately 203.2 mm (8.00 in) to 304.8 mm (12.00 in). Insert wooden blocks or other suitable blocking material between the body and the truck rails. Bolt pads and shim packs to the body. Remove the blocking material and lower the body to the frame.5. Place a body pad on each rocker at the front of the body. Place as many shims as will fit between the pad and the body. Remove the pad and shim stacks. Add shim to each stack.6. Raise the body and install body retaining pins. Bolt the pads and shim stacks to the rockers. Remove body retaining pins and lower the body. No gaps should be visible between the body pads and mating surfaces.
