The face of the stator assembly contacts the inner race of the impeller support bearing in some torque converters. The face can be damaged if the race turns. The damaged face can be machined down and reinstalled in the torque converter with a spacer.Repair of Stator Assembly with Damaged Bearing Contact Face
Use the following steps to repair the stator assembly:

Stator wheel machining specifications
(A) Outside diameter
(AB) Zero this diameter for alignment
(AC) 9.35 0.03 mm (0.368 0.001 inch)
(AD) Thickness of stator
(AE) Diameter used to chuck part into lathe
(AF) Diameter used to chuck part into lathe
(13) Surface used for alignment
(15) Maximum radius 1.5 mm (0.06 inch)
Install the stator assembly in a lathe. Carefully, chuck on diameters (AE) and (AF) that as shown in Illustration 9. Zero on surface (14) and diameter (AB).
Machine surface (12), maintaining outside diameter (A), to depth that as shown in Illustration 9 and listed in Table 4.
Fabricate a spacer as shown in Illustration 10 and Table 4. Use preheat-treated SAE4150 steel (Rc34-39).
Make sure that the chamfer is placed against the machined surface.Note: The repair procedures in this section cannot be applied to certain, early 1T-0593 Wheel. The installation of a spacer will reduce converter drain area by an unacceptable amount. To identify the unrepairable stators, measure dimension (AD). Refer to Illustration 6. Do not attempt this salvage operation if dimension (AD) is 19.0 mm (0.75 inch). Stators with a dimension of 24.0 mm (0.94 inch) can be salvaged.
