Place the transmission in THIRD SPEED .
Move the transmission direction switch to the FORWARD position.
Increase the engine speed to high idle.
Allow the engine speed to stabilize. Record the engine rpm.
Reduce the engine speed to low idle.
Shift the transmission to the NEUTRAL position. The correct stall speed for the 834H Wheel Dozer in third speed forward is 1750 60 rpm.The correct stall speed for the 836H Landfill Compactor in third speed forward is 1760 60 rpm.Incorrect stall speeds indicate one or more of the following conditions: Low stall speeds indicate a possible problem with engine performance . The stall speed should be corrected before the performance of the hydraulic system can be properly tested.

(1) All tests for stall speeds should be ran in the forward direction.The software program that will be used for this test procedure is the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). Connect the laptop computer to service connector (2) in the cab. The service connector is located on the back wall of the cab to the right of the operator's station.

Open the software program (ET). Select the "Transmission 834H" or the "Transmission 836H" from the "ECM Selector" menu.

Select the "Diagnostics" menu in order to begin the calibration procedure. Then select "Diagnostic Tests". A second menu will be displayed. Select "Transmission Stall" from the second menu.

The next screen is the initial calibration screen. Once "Torque Converter Stall Speed" has been selected, the screen displays the incremental instructions for calibration. The top display area displays status parameters that are monitored during the calibration. The middle display area displays information about the status of the calibration. The bottom display area displays incremental instructions for the calibration. The step that currently needs to be carried out is in bold text. All other steps are displayed in gray text. Note: Keep the right brake pedal depressed throughout the testing.
Press the "Next>" button in order to start the calibration. The "Next>" button is disabled until the current step has been successfully completed. A check will be placed in the box that is left of the step, after the current step is complete. After
