Optional Equipment
The field cultivator can be equipped with the following optional items:
True floating hitch
Hitch (Trailing behind)
Choice of two types of shanks
Multiple choices of harrowsShanks
The lower section of all shanks is 5/8 inch wide. This prevents the buildup of residue on the shank. The bottom of the shank has a 47 degree angle for mounting the sweeps. The field cultivator can be equipped with a 209-5042 S Shank or a 209-5043 C Shank.
Illustration 1 g00831828
The 209-5042 S Shank has the following advantages:
Standard item
Vibrating action
Few parts to wear
Rugged design
Two-piece design
Illustration 2 g00831873
The 209-5043 C Shank has the following advantages:
Optional item
86 kg (190 lb) of force at the point
Stiff action
254 mm (10 inch) trip for obstaclesThe field cultivator is available with the 6 inch spacing of the shanks or 8 inch spacing of the shanks. The 6 inch spacing provides a radius of 24 inches around each shank and the 8 inch spacing provides a radius of 32 inches around each shank.Sweeps
The stem on the sweeps must have a 47 degree angle in order to mount the sweep on the shank. The field cultivator can be equipped with sweeps that are 9 inches wide or 10 inches wide.Operating Speeds
The rated speed for operation of the Field cultivator is between 5 mph to 7.5 mph. However, rough field conditions or excessive debris may require a slower operating speed.Horsepower Requirements
For typical field conditions, the field cultivator will require 5 to 6 drawbar horsepower per foot of operating width. The required drawbar horsepower will vary according to the following items:
Field conditions
Type of harrow
Additional towed implementsOperating Depth
The field cultivator is designed to operate as deep as 127 mm (5 inch).Make sure that the depth of tillage is suitable for the operation that is being performed. Incorporation of chemicals requires a shallow depth of tillage to keep the chemical in the top 3 inches of the soil.Phasing the Implement
The hydraulic cylinders that are used on the implement should be phased periodically during tillage.Reference: See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic Cylinders - Phase" for additional information.Maintenance Locks
Illustration 3 g00837870
(1) Lock for the Floating Hitch (2) Lock for raise/lower cylindersMaintenance locks are provided in order to mechanically lock the hydraulic cylinders in the raised position. The maintenance locks are red and the maintenance locks have a notice that directs you to the Operation and Maintenance Manual. The maintenance locks should be used when you are performing maintenance in the raised position on the implement. If the wings are unfolded, use a suitable jack to support the wings. Storage locations for the maintenance locks are provided on the implement in order to allow the service locks to be available at all times.
Raise the implement. Make sure that all of the hydraulic cylinders for the center section are completely extended. If equipped, the hydraulic cylinder for the floating hitch will extend first.
Set the parking brake on the tractor and stop the engine.
Remove the maintenance locks from the storage positions and install the locks on the hydraulic cylinders that raise the center section and the hydraulic cylinder that
