ACTION REQUIRED
In the event of circle drive pinion failure, replace the 450-5244 Pinion with the same part by removing the pinion from the bottom of the Circle Drive Gp. Follow UENR3490 for disassembly and assembly procedures.
Use the proper oil (FDAO). Follow the Service Manual procedure in SIS for installing the drive gear and adjusting the slip clutch settings.
Take a picture of the failed part prior to repair and report to Caterpillar. Give the picture(s) to your Dealer Technical Communicator (TC) along with this service letter program number and CPI number 388128. Request the Dealer TC to submit the information through CPI Feedback within the Service Information Management System (SIMSi).

If there has been a previous repair, part age/hours will apply. Retain a copy of the previous repair invoice in the dealer's records for audit purposes, and specify repair date and machine hours in the "Additional Comments" section of the warranty claim.
If pinion shaft replacement is required, an additional 10 hours of labor is allowed.
