Make sure the cable is removed from the drum.
START BY:a) remove idler gears 1. Remove nut (1), collar and the O-ring seal from the shaft.2. Loosen the disconnect drag brake (2). 3. Remove bar (3) from case. 4. Fasten a hoist to drum and remove nut (4) and spacer. 5. Remove bolts (5) from support (6). 6. Use 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws and remove support (6). 7. Remove shim(s) (8) and O-ring seal (7) from the support. 8. Remove the shaft (9). 9. Remove two O-ring seals (10) from shaft (9). 10. Remove bolts (11) and ring (12). 11. Separate gear (13) from drum (14) approximately 12.7 mm (.50 in.) and use a hoist to remove drum assembly (14). Weight is 75 lb. (34 kg). 12. Remove bolts (15) from drum (14). 13. Use 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws and remove retainer (16). 14. Remove sleeve (17) from retainer (16). 15. Remove seal (18) from retainer (16). 16. Use tooling (A) to remove two bearings (19) from drum. 17. Remove the gear (20) from the case. Gear weight is 50 lb. (23 kg). 18. Use tooling (A) to remove two bearings (21) and a spacer from the gear (20). 19. Remove retainer ring (22), support ring (23) and seal (24). 20. Use tooling (B) to remove bearing (25) from case.Install Drum
1. Clean and inspect all parts. Make a replacement of the parts if worn or damaged. 2. Lower the temperature of bearing (1) and install in the case. 3. Install seal (2), support ring (3) and retaining ring (4) into case. The lip of the seal must be toward the gear when installed. 4. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (5) and (6). Install bearing cone (7) and bearing cup (5) in gear (8) as shown. Install spacer (9), bearing cone (10) and bearing cup (6) in gear as shown. 5. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (11) and (12). Install the bearing cup (12) and bearing cone (15) in drum (14) as shown. Install bearing cone (13) and bearing cup (11) in drum as shown. 6. Use tooling (A) and a press to install seal (16) into retainer (18). The lip of seal (16) must be toward the bearing when installed.7. Lubricate seal with SAE 30W oil and install sleeve (17) into retainer (18). 8. Put 7M7260 Liquid Gasket Material on the contact surfaces of drum (14) and retainer (18). Install retainer on the drum. 9. Use a hoist to put drum (14) in position. Lubricate seal (2) (see Step 3) with SAE 30W oil. 10. Install gear (8) into case and put in position on drum. Install ring (19) and bolts (20). Do not tighten the bolts to their specific torque at this time. Dowel on drum must be aligned with dowel hole in gear. 11. Install two O-ring seals (21) on shaft (22). Lubricate O-ring seals with SAE 30W oil. 12. Install the shaft (22) into the gear and drum assembly. 13. Install O-ring seal (23),
